About VARE

Started in 1964 by Anna Whiteside, VARE Real Estate has operated continuously since that time. VARE stands for Valley Associates Real Estate.

Over Forty years of studying and being part of the market gives one a good long term overview. One of the aims of this web site is to offer information to the consumer that will aid in the purchase or sale of property and in assisting buyers and sellers in making informed decisions about real estate.

Another aim is to offer links that will make it attractive for those interested in Vermont real estate to visit our website often.

Stay tuned, and we hope you’ll feel it’s worth your while. Let us share our 40+ years of real estate experience with you.

Anna Whiteside, Principal Broker, moved to the Mad River Valley from Norwalk CT with her three children, Joe, Nina and Nick in 1963 and opened her first real estate office in 1964.  It was an easy sequence of events as her family had been in the real estate business in Faifield County since 1927.  “I fell in love with Vermont and have never regretted the move or my decision to make real estate my career.  I enjoy coming to work every day and meeting the many wonderful people that I have met through my business” says Anna.

Forty-five years of experience doesn’t mean that one can become complacent about their education.  In the business of real estate just as in many service industries, it is important to keep up with recent trends and changing modes of communication.  The internet has changed our world and how business is conducted.  It is important to keep up the latest technology advances and be cognizant of the fact that today’s buyer and seller is more demanding of instant communication and less tolerant of slow response.  There are many advances in the software that is available today and it is important to be up to speed in this regard.

Our licensing laws require that we keep up with our real estate knowledge by taking a certain amount of classes that are considered pertinent and necessary.  In addition there are many classes that one can pursue on one’s own.  They are not required, but today’s seriously committed broker will want to take these classes in order to be better able to serve his/her customers and clients.  I’ve been in the business so long that I don’t remember all my designations, but here is a partial list:

GRI     Graduate Realtor Institute

CBR    Certified Buyer Representative

RECS  Real Estate Cyberspace Society

ePRO  Certification for Internet Professionalism

NAR   National Association of Realtors

AHS   Midway through a staging course

Bruce A. Bertholon, Realtor®, a former Jersey Shore resident comes to VARE with a varied sales background.  For years he sold insurance to realtors, lawyers and other professionals in NJ, only to leave that profession to sell boats and run a yacht charter business in Maine.  After a brief retirement, he has re-entered the sales field this time in real estate.  “The Mad River Valley is one of the last truly remote, unspoiled and beautiful recreational areas left in the US that offers a variety of activities both in the winter and summer.  It is a wonderful place to work and play, or retire.  I am looking forward to helping people find their place here” says Bruce.  Bruce and his wife Fran reside in East Warren along with their dogs and horses.

Our friends Summer and Callie will greet you when you visit our office.
